Scanning your illustration

The standard scanning resolution for print quality work is 300dpi, and save as tif (jpeg looses information and is fuzzy).

In the comics industry, they use blue pencils for the sketch and black ink for the final line work. If you’re doing this, select “Line Art” (or “Bitmap” for some scanners) and the blue pencil won’t show up, then you can colour digitally.

Note that in the comics industry, it is standard to scan at 400dpi (and they’re usually working on paper twice the size of the final comic book page).

And professional printers recommend 400dpi scans if your image includes type.
