How to change an external hard drive letter in Windows 10

If you have multiple external hard drives, you may find your system assigns the same drive different letters which causes problems for programs using those drives (media players can’t find music files etc).

To assign the letter manually:

  1. Press the Windows key and ‘X.’ A menu will appear, choose ‘Disk Management’ (磁盘管理).
  2. The ‘Disk Management’ window will open, right click on the drive you want to reassign the letter to, and choose ‘Change drive letter and paths’ (更改驱动器号和路径) .
  3. Another window will open, click the ‘Change’ button and it will give you a drop down menu of letters to choose from. Choose it, click on ‘OK’ and you’re done.
